Rolling Style
Rolling Style is a research-driven design initiative that reimagines the wheelchair as both mobility aid and personal statement.
Developed through co-creative workshops and interviews with members of Action Disability Kensington & Chelsea (ADKC) and other wheelchair users, the project introduces a detachable customisation toolkit—modular accessories that let users style their chairs like they style their clothing, turning “medical equipment” into part of the day’s outfit.
While attending London Fashion Week, I noticed many wheelchair users whose outfits were bold and intentional—creative layers, standout hats, meticulous detail—yet their chairs remained uniform and clinical, excluded from the fashion conversation.
'The wheelchair is a part of my body.'
'If someone tells me my chair looks cool, it makes my whole day.'
After conversations with ADKC Access Group and other wheelchair users reshaped how my views mobility aids.
These moments made a deep impression on me and led me to reimagine the wheelchair through the lens of fashion, not as a clinical object, but as an extension of personal style and identity. Inspired by clothing and the rituals of dressing, I began to explore how wheelchairs could become expressive, adaptable, and deeply personal.
